S050 - Resource Access and the User Experience: Exploring ways to improve security and authentication for services and content
This session explores user impact in evaluating and transitioning between authentication services.  Presenters will discuss potential alternatives to IP-based-authentication and describe pilot testing of alternatives among publisher, vendor systems, and library partners.  Also covered will be one library’s move to Shibboleth and how front-line service and resulting concerns were managed.

What happens when university IT mandates that all patrons must login to library resources using two-factor authentications instead of IP authentication? S083-02 - The Problem with IPs - How to Manage the IP Ranges Publishers Hold to Authenticate Your Library
Currently 58% of IPs held by publishers to authenticate libraries are wrong. The community managed IP Registry allows libraries to check and correct the held ranges free of charge. Participants will learn how to use the database and avoid the process for updating IPs involving multiple emails to each supplier.
